Who we are
The information in your application is being collected by the Long Service Corporation, an agency within the NSW Department of Customer Service. The NSW Department of Customer Service gives priority to protecting the privacy of your personal information, in accordance with the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 (PPIP Act).

Why we collect personal information
We collect personal information for the purposes of determining your application to register a building and construction industry worker with the Long Service Corporation in accordance with Part 3, Division 2, Sections 16 to 18 of the Building and Construction Industry Long Service Payments Act 1986.
The kinds of information we collect
We may collect the following information:
- The worker’s full name, date of birth, and contact details including address, email, and phone number
- Details of the worker’s employment with you, including their start date
- Additional personal information if it is required to satisfy the eligibility requirements for registration
Failure to provide information
In accordance with section 16A of the Building and Construction Industry Long Service Payments Act 1986, an employer is obliged to notify the Long Service Corporation of a worker’s employment within 7 days from their commencement. The maximum penalty for not providing this information is 20 penalty units.
How we may use this information
We may use the information we collect in the following ways:
- To record the information in the register of workers maintained by the Long Service Corporation in accordance with Section 15 the Building and Construction Industry Long Service Payments Act 1986.
- To enable us to administer the building and construction industry portable long service payment scheme, including processing annual returns, responding to queries, and sending information that we consider important, such as information relating to long service credits.
- We may use the information to support more informed policy making, program management, evaluation, research and service planning as it can facilitate more efficient service delivery for the building and construction industry in NSW.
- To confirm the details you have provided if an application for payment is made under the building and construction industry portable long service payment scheme.
- Other directly related purposes.
Who we may share the information with
We will not disclose the information you provide to anybody else unless we are authorised or permitted to do so by law or where you have given consent. Our privacy statement provides further information about how we may share personal information.
If required, we may make enquiries and exchange information with other NSW Government agencies, or other states, territories and/or the Commonwealth for the purposes of recognising eligible work and long service payments recorded in another state or territory, verifying the information you provide or requesting additional information. We may disclose your information with such bodies for these purposes.
Protecting personal information
We have measures in place to help protect personal information from loss, unauthorised access, use, modification, disclosure, or other misuse.
We will store and manage your information in accordance with the provisions of the PPIP Act and HRIP Act.
We will only keep information for as long as we need it to fulfil the purposes we collected it for. After which, the information will be disposed of securely in accordance with the State Records Act 1998 and any other applicable legislation.
