Special provision for Contract Cleaning workers leaving the industry during COVID-19 pandemic.

The Corporation has identified that the legislated 20 week wait for payment of entitlements to contract cleaning workers upon leaving the industry has caused significant financial impact during the COVID-19 crisis. We have considered how to provide support during these times of hardship.

The following temporary changes to the Act have been approved:

  • enable contract cleaning workers, who have five or more years recorded service and who are permanently leaving the industry, to immediately access their long service benefits.
  • remove the requirement that the worker is not credited with service in the worker's register for any of the days in the 20 week period. This allows a worker to start recording service again if they return to work even within the 20 week period. They will still need to start building service credits from zero.

This temporary measure is to apply for six months and started immediately upon commencement, 14th May 2020. It will help workers who are unemployed due to COVID-19. If a worker has recently made a long service claim, the Corporation will assist the worker to replace their request with a fresh claim to remove the 20 week wait time.

The Corporation continues to investigate other measures to help workers and employers under current circumstances and will provide advice as appropriate.

Counter services

To support and protect the health of our customers and staff our counter service is CLOSED until further notice.

Postage services

All incoming and outgoing postage services are CLOSED until further notice.

Application for payments

Phone our Helpline on 13 14 41. All claim forms will be sent to our customers via email. Complete the claim form as instructed and return via email for processing.

Paying a building levy

Pay your building levy online by credit card up to cost of works of $6M (incl of GST) and receive your receipt by email. Please be sure to check your email spam folders. If cost of works is above $6M, complete a Levy Payment Form and forward a request for an EFT reference to levy@longservice.nsw.gov.au. You will receive a confirmation email with your EFT reference number and the Corporation’s banking details. Once funds are received, the Corporation will forward your receipt to your nominated email address. We are unable to accept cash or cheque payments or post receipts until further notice.  Enquiries may be emailed to levy@longservice.nsw.gov.au or call 13 14 41.
