CSI worker pre-registration - privacy collection notice

Who we are

Your information is being collected by the Long Service Corporation (LSC), an agency within the NSW Department of Customer Service (DCS). DCS is committed to protecting your personal information in accordance with the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 (PPIP Act).

If you are under the age of 16, you should speak with an appropriate adult before sharing any of your personal information.

If you have any questions about this notice, or how we handle your personal information, you can contact our privacy team.

Why we collect your personal information

We collect your personal information to determine your eligibility and register you as a worker under the community services portable long service leave scheme (the Scheme). This is required for LSC to carry out its functions under the Community Services Sector (Portable Long Service Leave) Act 2024, including:

  • keeping a Register of Workers
  • registering workers and maintaining Worker Records
  • administering the portable long service leave payment scheme.

The kinds of information we collect

During the registration process, you will be asked a series of eligibility questions before being redirected to Service NSW to log in and complete identity verification. After you complete this process, Service NSW shares certain verified information with LSC.

We may collect:

  • eligibility information you provide directly to LSC
  • your full name, date of birth, and verified contact details (email, phone number)
  • a pseudonymous identifier (PPID) to link your Service NSW account with your LSC Worker account
  • any additional information provided by Service NSW as part of the proof of identity process that is required to assess your registration or confirm your identity.

Failure to provide information

Providing your information is voluntary. However, if you do not provide the required details or do not complete the identity verification process via Service NSW, we may be unable to determine your eligibility and cannot register you for the Scheme.

How we may use this information

We may use the information we collect to:

  • register you as a community services industry worker with the LSC
  • create your Worker Record and enter your details into the Register of Workers
  • verify your identity and confirm your eligibility
  • provide you with secure access to the LSC Worker Portal
  • communicate with you about your registration, your service record (including annual statements) and any matters you raise with us
  • keeping you informed about Scheme updates, initiatives and information relevant to workers
  • respond to and communicate about complaints and enquiries in relation to the Scheme
  • support service planning, policy development, evaluation and research relating to LSC’s statutory functions
  • prepare and provide relevant information to the Community Services Industry Portable Long Service Leave Committee if you lodge an appeal against a decision made by the LSC
  • confirm your details if you make a future long service leave claim
  • carry out any other purpose directly related to administering the Scheme.

Worker Reference ID

As part of your registration, LSC issues you a unique Worker Reference ID. This identifier helps ensure your eligible service is accurately traced across different employers. You are responsible for citing your Worker Reference ID when registering any new employment through the Worker Portal, so that your service can be correctly matched to your Worker Record.

Who we may share your information with

We may share your information:

  • with Service NSW, to link your LSC Worker account with your Service NSW account and display your scheme tile in your Service NSW Dashboard
  • with other NSW, interstate or territory government agencies, or scheme administrators, where necessary to verify or confirm your service history, recognise eligible service performed in another state or territory, assess claims, or undertake compliance activities
  • with the Community Services Industry Portable Long Service Leave Committee, if you lodge an appeal and your information is required to review and determine the matter
  • with your authorised representative (e.g., tax agent) if you provide consent.

We will not disclose your information to anybody else unless we are authorised or permitted to do so by law or where you have given consent. For more information, see our Privacy Statement.

Protecting your information

We take steps to protect your information from loss, unauthorised access, misuse, modification, or disclosure.

Your personal information is stored in secure systems hosted in Australia. These environments are implemented under security controls that have been reviewed and approved by Cyber Security NSW.

Your information is managed in line with the PPIP Act and kept only for as long as necessary for the purposes for which it was collected. When no longer required, it is disposed of securely in accordance with the State Records Act 1998.

Your rights

Under section 17(4) and section 18(2) of the Community Services Sector (Portable Long Service Leave) Act 2010, you have the right to:

  • request access to your personal information
  • request correction of your personal information.

If you wish to exercise these rights, please contact us.
